Ada yang tahu apa itu skimming dan scanning ? di dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris ada 4 skill yang harus dipelajari yaitu speaking, listening, reading, dan grammar. skimming dan scanning merupakan bagian dari pembelajaran dari salah satu skill yang saya sebutkan tadi, yaitu reading di dalam pembelajaran reading kita akan menemui materi tentang skimming dan scanning. apa sih skimming dan scanning itu ? penjelasannya akan dibahas di sini.

SKIMMING AND SCANNING

A.    SKIMMING

Skimming is reading quckly to get the general idea of a text. When you skim, you don’t read every word and don’t stop to look up words you don’t know in a dictionjary. It is a good technique to use when you have lots of materials to read in a short time. The purpose of skimming is to get a general idea of what the passage is about.

Here are the tips to do the skimming :

-        Read the first sentences to get a general idea about the passagge.

-        Read the las sentences. These often summarize information in the passage.

-        Find out the key words (the words thet are repeated) which give you clues about the topic.

B.     SCANNING

Scanning is a way to read quickly to get specific idea of the text. It is a slower process than skimming and you don’t have to read every word in the text in order to obtain specific information.

Here are the tips to scan effectively :

-        Find out the specific information you are looking for; a name, a date, a time, a key word.

-        Ignor the words and information that aren’t important for your purpose.

-        Move your eyes rapidly across the text until you find the information and then stop reading.
